Computer Arts - New Talent
The idea for the cover came from a specific key-word, “Passion”. New talent is driven by the never ending passion that is felt throught the early stages. The feeling that everything is possible, and that you can grab everything by the horns and do the impossible. It’s quite a strong word in the hands of a young graphic designer, illustrator, etc.
What does passion feel like? It’s like you start simple, and then this heat inside of you starts growing and growing, until you’re on a run, full of ideas, full of willpower, nothing can stop you! To transmit this idea of passion, there are numerous ways, but the way that was explored was as simple as an electric grill.

An electric grill starts of cold, but when plugged in, the heat starts to pump up until it’s untouchable with such temperatures. So the cover illustration consists of an electric grill, and the specific bars that usually heat up, are the ones that write “New Talent”. Through a Thermocromatic finish, the bars that create the typography, when applied pressure, start turning red, in this case, heating up. The top layer being grey will dissapear showing to all the orange/red colour that simbolizes heat, and passion. Being the gimmick of the whole cover, it occupies a great part of it.

On the iPad version of the cover, we can play with the so called heat levels. The typography can be heating ridiculously or simply cooling down in a loop, transmiting the idea of a grill, killing it with the orange/red passion.

The cover was shortlisted on the Top 12 and exhibited at D&AD New Blood
