Proposed design for a Visitor/ Interpretation center

Design proposal for an interpretation centre at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Camarthenshire - completed June 2010
The main aim for this design is to create a building to which efficiently but economically runs. To do this sustainability strategies will be put into place and then hopefully will allow this design to run with the aim of a total zero carbon output.

The proposed design of the centre will comprise of single floor timber frame structure with a flat green vegetation roof. Its design is influenced from a visitor or tea centre in china, in which the building tried to work with the environment rather than overwhelm it.

The site as a whole has one main entrance, with a large area of farm land, a small stream to the south and a north sloping hill also. The south western part of the site slopes towards the large lake to the west, and towards the North West end the land falls to the west. There is one main access point East of the site, which is an unmaintained gravel track. There are as previously mentioned two buildings currently on the site, a barn and old farm house, a large lake also to the east and to the south a large area of woodland.
