Paraoculus is a project about a phenomenon called apophenia, in which often people see patterns in random occurrences. A type of apophenia in which one experiences seeing visuals and other sensory stimuli is called pareidolia. Paraoculus is the specific type of pareidolia where one sees the image of eyes everywhere. The reason behind this project is to promote and spread out the so-called “disease” or “sickness” because having apophenia is not something bad. A positive way to look at it is that it changes the perception of the world. People with apophenia -- especially paraoculus can imagine seeing things that other people do not normally see. Gaining insight and inspiration in a different way. How sometimes ideas and creativity comes from the most random thing that are not even remotely corrected. How creativity is seeing things in something that are missed by other people. Sometimes creativity and madness are hard to differentiate.
Typeface Design
The typeface design took inspiration from paraoculus, the event of seeing eyes in random things. Taking a more abstract approach to the concept of apophenia. Adding the eyes inside the letter to achieve the ominous effect to it and give it a mysterious feeling. A glance of how having a paraoculus would be like.

Publication Design
The publication is 32 pages long and the content is a scientific explanation on the phenomenon of paraoculus. Designed specifically to mimic a medical book the content is written as if paraoculus is a virus that is spreading in the human population. Accompanied with fictional case study, guiding images, illustration, and quotes blending reality and fiction. These images are examples of how things are seen from the perspective of someone that is infected by paraoculus. The publication is splitted into 4 chapter "Apophenia", "Pareidolia", "Paraoculus", and "Infection".

Through the QR code at the end of the publication users will be able to access a website where they can watch optical illusion videos. The video purpose is to stimulate a better experience on what being infected by paraoculus feels like.

Warning.
The video below has the potential to trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.

Gaze into the little dot in the middle of the eye for a minute, then look away to an empty space such as sky or a wall. Blink your eyes and you will experience paraoculus.
