In 1663, the Royal Society of London adopted the Latin maxim “Nullius in verba” meaning “on the word of no one” as the motto of the institution. This scientific society wanted to make clear it is vocation to pursue knowledge through experiments, uninfluenced by political authorities or the prevailing beliefs.
