Lake Walyungup is a salt lake south of Rockingham in Western Australia. As it is often used for car racing and land yacht sailing, I was not expecting much on my visit.
Finding the only public entrance to the lake was also a challenge, which meant I arrived later in the day than expected.

A few people were there walking their dogs and a number of cars had set themselves up at the far end of the dry salt lake and were having some sort of alcohol fueled picnic.
I noticed a slither of water in the distance, which must have been the remainder of the lake, after the long dry summer months. On closer inspection, I was absolutely amazed by the organic salt structures and character of the lake. The rocks you can see poking above the water in these photographs are not rocks, but huge salt deposits.
Getting close to the lake to take these photographs was a little difficult as the land beneath my feet, and my tripod was slowly shifting and sinking. Not being land at all, but fragile salt deposits.
