The Old Man Mad About Art (Rhetoric of Ekphrasis ISTD)

This book was designed for a competition run by ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers), and the brief I picked was called “The Rhetoric Of Ekphrasis”. I was asked to pick a major piece of visual art and textually explore it.
The artist I picked was Katsushika Hokusai and the art one of his collections based on a very old collection of Japanese poems called “Ogura Hyakunin Isshu” meaning “100 people, 1 poem each”. The book displays Hokusai’s prints and drafts, but also the old poems and new poems. The new poems were taken from Risa Bear’s blog and Visipix  (Hannes Keller). Also the old poems and art was taken from Visipix.com.
