Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit

Each part of the book cover design reflected upon various underlying themes throughout the book. The bold, pink figure of a woman represents the sexuality of the main character in the story, Jeanette. With the leg and cleavage peering out from underneath a dress, it shows the curiosity of the young woman in the book and her attraction towards women but the fact it is still slightly hidden represents her mother’s repressive nature and the fact she will not allow such things, being a strict Christian woman. The title of the book has been written in red an follows the shape of a demon’s tail, reflecting Jeanette’s mother’s distaste at homosexuality and its apparent association with the devil. The title type is serif to emulate the curves of a woman’s body, whilst the remainder of the type is a bold sans serif to be easily read against the black cover.
