Pulse

Inspired by soft robotics, “Pulse” is an interactive installation consisting of artificial silicone creatures that move in water.

Undisturbed, these creatures lay dormant at the bottom of the tank. When one knocks on the glass, the creatures will be awaken, emitting light, curling and pulsing upwards.

The graceful movement of the creatures is attributed to the elastic property of silicone. As air is pumped into these creatures, they inflate in a certain manner controlled by the stretchiness of the silicone. When the air supply is cut, the silicone pushes the air out, restoring its original shape.
