Designing for Ikea, Joost focused his research on desks and offices of the future. People have less and less of their own working space and more flexible work spaces. Due to the lack of personal space in these new offices he wanted to create a way to generate new personal space with all the necessary belongings and at the same time exclude some of the impulses from around the working place to create more concentration yet still being approachable.
Skiljevägg, meaning partition, is a foldable and portable desk divider which can store multiple smaller objects such as pens, your phone, sticky notes or hard discs, which are often needed in office environments. The modular panels can be attached to one another using zippers. This way you can create a bigger personal space and team up with colleagues. Skiljevägg can be folded up using push-buttons. The handles make it easy to carry to work and home.
Designing for Ikea, production and cost efficiency had to be taken into account resulting in the use of synthetic needle felt which can be produced at a low cost and it is easily processed.
