Energy Smart - Benesh Rotor based Wind Turbine (VAWT)

From Sketch to Skyline: A Milestone in Renewable Energy

In 2012, my final year project took me on an exhilarating journey in the realm of green energy. I designed and crafted one of India's pioneering VAWTs, aptly named "Energy Smart," based on the high efficiency Benesh Rotor concept originally published in 1994.

Fast forward to today, and this endeavor stands as a beacon of progress. Fueled by innovations in material science, VAWTs have evolved dramatically. The rise of affordable Carbon Fiber as a material as well as the entire process since 2012 has changed the game, making these turbines far more efficient and cost-effective than ever before.

Now, in 2018, with amazingly improved materials and power electronics, VAWTs are no longer just a vision but a viable, practical alternative to standalone solar systems, especially in urban settings with low-to-moderate wind speeds. It's a tale of how engineering dreams can, and do, become reality.

Modified Benesh Rotor based VAWT for low to moderate wind speed areas in urban environment of Nashik, Maharashtra.
