Inspired by Shane Koyczan’s collaborative video animation project, "To this Day", Marisa Vitiello, Adobe Youth Voices Mentor (Seattle), set out to create a collaborative video within our AYV community. She commissioned poet/musician Hollis Wong-Wear to write a poem for the project and then split up the poem into phrases, which she assigned to participating teachers to distribute to their youth. Students from eight schools in 3 countries (US, Canada and England) created visuals to illustrate the poem using a variety of tools including stop motion animation, After Effects, Flash and video. This video was compiled using a new Adobe App called Clip, which allows collaborators to put their media directly on a timeline shared by the group. The resulting video is a rich tapestry about the difficult question of how to grow up.

Sariena is a member of the Film Arts Program in the Claude Watson Secondary Arts Program at Earl Haig Secondary School in Toronto Canada. Sariena took the initiative, along with two other classmates, to learn Adobe Flash to participate in this project. She has since gone on to create other media works with strong social messages, volunteers as an ambassador for our program, and also volunteers as a media master for a local elementary school.

Ye Ju Kim
Ye Ju Kim is a high school artist that started her US school career at Seattle World School. She worked for hours on the individual drawings that became part of the collaborative poem. Her detailed pen and ink self portrait shows her creativity and technical skill. She has moved on to her neighborhood high school and is continuing to explore art as a way to communicate.

Amina Mohamednur
Amina Mohamednur is a 16-year-old sophomore at West Seattle High School. Though her family came to the United States from Somolia, she was born in Austin Texas. She came to Seattle in 2006. She enjoys reading, writing, singing, photography, and making videos.

Julia Takatsuka represented Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood, Washington for the Adobe collaboration “The Question Is…” Working with layered photos in Photoshop, she created complex images derived from the figurative and literal meanings of each section assigned, and related them to the poem as a whole. She is now attending the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York as a first year graphic design major to pursue her passion for design.
