High demand for supermarket meats, milk and eggs leads to the mass production of these products at factory farms. The goal is high production with as little cost as possible. This often compromises animal welfare. Dairy cows milked to exhaustion, egg-laying hens kept in battery cages, pregnant sows kept indoors with little to no space to move, the list goes on.
