Nelson-Atkins Exhibit Poster

Museum Exhibit Poster
Typography I
This poster is part of an overarching project involving research of a designer or design movement. I was assigned to research Massimo Vignelli. After conducting research, we were asked to create a poster for a fictitious exhibit at the Nelson-Atkins Museum featuring our designer/movement.

My idea for this poster design was to pay homage to Vignelli as a designer, and his process. Creation of, and adherence to, grid structure was and is an essential part of his design work. The background grid is a recreation of Vignelli's famous Unigrid. I wanted to create a moment in the process of laying out text on a grid, sketching out letter forms, and honing in on the placement, using clean and simple imagery -- the use of hands was inspired by the cover for his book,
Design is One. The exhibit information is displayed in a simple Helvetica font, another nod to Vignelli's style.
