Non è un gioco da ragazze!

The project’s aim is to show, through different media and artworks, how toys related to food communicate gender stereotypes, in order to raise critical awareness about the issue. After a deepened research, we have found out these toys change their target in relation to its age: they pass to be unisex and suitable for boys and girls, to be unevoquically girlish.
The research

The first part of work consisted in analyzing a sample of toys, with the aim of collecting meaningful data.

Organisation and visualisation of data - Infographics

The data collected has been organised in infographics.

The first infographic shows the data from a quantitative standpoint. The aim is to give to the audience a general overview on the topic and to make it become familiar with the chosen parameters, their distribution and their amount.

In the second infographic, the data shown are connected to the age and gender parameters throught flows, in order to support our theory about target-evolution. The last part is an icon summary of what it is shown above.

The third infographic uses the photographic material collected during the research and organises it on a Cartesian coordinate system.

The fourth table gathers all the symbols that makes toys perceived as girl-oriented.

This last artwork displays how children change, on packaging and ADV, in relation to toys and age.

The animated tale - Motion Graphic

The following artwork is a motion graphic that explains how toys change in time, spreading gender stereotypes. The motion’s goal is to raise the audience awareness about this problem.

Call to action - Poster

The fourth artwork of the project stands up against stereotypes, making people aware that children grow up with this kind of models and accept them as normal.

To support a lasting change in the audience's behaviour , we designed a flyer that can be assembled to create a little stove. It is completely white, in order to make both boys and girls free to paint and to decorate it as they want, avoiding the genderized visual codes occurring in the market nowadays.

Here you can see the visual book about this project.

Thank you!
