Harmony in Dissonance

As part of a City, Colour, Culture project, Harmony in Dissonance aims to present the stories of the misfits of society. Why do we crave so much for balance? Is there beauty in discord? Who are the real misfits? What makes a misfit a misfit?

In search for the harmony in dissonance, this project explores the relationships between people and space, people and people, as well as space and space.

When we look around us, do we notice people who don’t fit into their surrounding environment or do we deem the surroundings unfitting for a person? When we look at a throng of people, do we see chaos or do we find an overriding sense of harmony in it? When we are placed in a crowded room, do we take in the general noise or do we notice the silence in the loudness?

This project also looks at how the colour grey can describe this sense of ambiguity. Grey is the merging of the light and the dark. It is the greying of boundaries. It is a reminder that there is always two sides to a coin. It is the colour of the shifting shadows that are fleeting but present. This project will explore the metaphorical, psychological and societal aspect of a colour in relation to harmony in dissonance.
