LightYear-One

Typography

LightYear-One is a celebration of our studio’s first year in business. Born from our experimentation with light painting and long exposure photography, we set out to create a typeface that felt both kitschy and innovative at the same time.

While the end result looks like the future, the process of getting there was very traditional. We shot over 500 photos, flailing our arms wildly, and “painting” with a diverse palette of lighting equipment. The shapes and streaks were then assembled into the final letterforms, which could be used for print or in motion.
