Takey's Cakey's Catering and Bake Shop

I started out my brainstorming of the logo to include the items that would be sold in the bake shop. I used patterns like the polka-dot chocolate chips, marbled cheesecakes, and cinnamon roll swirls. All the different patterns seemed too busy. I liked the idea of groups of three and kept the three overlapping circles. The colors were chosen to be bright and fun, something that looked exciting, someplace you wanted to visit.
I wanted to keep my envelope simple. I left white space for the barcode and stamp area instead of coloring it or adding logos or designs. I chose to align the blue/green color from the bottom left circle with the business name. I opted out of putting the subtitle name on the envelope, keeping it on one line so as not to take up the entire left side with text.
The business card I aligned into two sides. On the left side I kept the logo and name, leaving the rest white space so as to draw the name and logo to the vision first. I left aligned the text on the right side, keeping the grouping of three together with the two lines of text in 3 sections. The QR code was tricky and I’m not sure I would keep it where it is. The idea was to have the eye drawn to it but not have it be the last thing that is focused on. Seeing it, should allow the viewer to recognize he/she can look up the website right there and see everything that the company has to offer.
The letterhead is simple. The three sections include the logo on the left, the name in the center, and the information left aligned on the right. The repeating patterns keep it simple and allow the reader to get the information right off and move on to the contents. I kept the dividing line thin and black so as to not clutter the page.
Here we have the letterhead as I mentioned before with ipsum text to see what it looks like with content. As you can see the same idea I previously said applies. The reader isn’t distracted with any watermark logos. The focus can be drawn from the logo and information on to the message.
The magazine ad was a lot of fun to design. Along with the coloring of the three colors on the logo I went with complimentary yellow and green pastel shades. The hierarchy allows the eyes to see the name and logo and move on to see more details of the event. The grand opening and text I kept the same font using different thickness, sizes, italics, bolds, etc. I went with two pictures to show the simple comfort of fresh baked cookies to something that is a little more decadent. Instead of white space on the page I went with polka-dots of the logo colors.

Here we see what the ad would look like if printed in a black and white newspaper. The hierarchy here goes from left to right in a Z line. The polka dots instead of using it to simply fill white space I used them in groups of three to emulate the pattern.
