ISTD "From the Ashes"

For the ISTD awards, I chose the brief "Milestone".

A milestone is described as “an important point in the progress or development of something : a very important event or advance”. With this in mind, I chose to work within the realm of war. Throughout history, war has always been considered a milestone, however I wanted to focus on what comes after war. I specifically noticed how the fashion industry progressed post war, innovative fashion movements always tended to occur as a result of war. This idea of beauty from tragedy inspired my concept, “from the ashes.” Overcoming tragedy is something that has become part of the human condition, as part of the ever-changing seasons we undergo. This juxtaposition of coming from the ashes is a milestone in itself and was what I ideally wanted to project. With this in mind I was inspired to create an exhibition as the main part of my execution, to represent my concept through the use of typography and photography.
