IWP (Innovative Watch Project) is my personal project, which is my concept idea about timepieces design.
This is the third version of my vortex watch concept, and I changed the outlook and structure to make it workable and more attractive.
Challenge
Nowadays, people are being rude to time. Although there are many beautiful watch in the world, people will only spend a few second on “reading” the time, and they never enjoy and treasure it. However, people should respect and treasure time because it is the most important thing in our life, so my aim is designing a timepiece, which is using a new time showing method to show the beautiful and mysterious of time, to provide a joyful time knowing experience, and remind people how impressive time is.
Research
In history, sky and space was the most attractive thing, and human keep discover and research the space. Besides that, scientists states that time is related to space, and they believe that time traveling could happen at the black hole.
My concept was inspired by black hole, and three vortex shape turntable have been used to display time. The vortex seems going deep to the center at the top view, but three vortex turntable are three raised shape in different layer at the side view.
How to show the time
Three dial are using different material to differentiate different layer of time. Shiny black plating steel has been used in hour and second dial, and matte black plating steel with Diamond powder finishing has been used in minute dial.
The dome glass and the back cover provide more space to storage the vortex dial and the movement, so the case could be slimmer.
Details
Metallic blue printing ring has been used at the glass back to highlight the dial. the case and part of the strap are made by ceramics, another part of the strap and case back are made by stainless steel.
Development
In the first version, I designed a watch dial with two vortex shape to layout the place of 12 hour, and two hemisphere to show the time. However, it is bored and difficult to emphasis the mysterious of time and space, so I changed it to the second version.
Second version are using two three-dimensional vortex to show the time, and the bottom reflection provided a hallucination that two vortex seems floating in the air. Nevertheless, the case is too thick to show the elegant of space and the vortex is difficult to produce, so I changed it.
