Shift Magazine Group Project

Shift Magazine Group Project
In a team of four, we were tasked to create a 32 page full magazine based on a Travel theme. We decided to focus on lesser known, smaller events, and while encouraging readers to go there, also focus on an educational portion.

We wanted our audience to learn about cultures and traditions, all while having fun and learning about new events that they could experience. We would have seasonal issues, so all the events in each would happen during the same season.

Thus: Shift Magazine- Travel + Adventure, came to be.
Cover not done by me
Everything below this point is my portion of the finished magazine. We agreed on a design template, with set typefaces, leading, and column arrangements. This helped to make our individual features and departments look like they belonged together.

I was responsible for the Contents Page- which I took a minimal, asymetrical approach to. I took images from the articles and used them as decorative elements, as well as giving a glimpse of the article content. The masthead opposite was done by a different group member, although we worked closely together to make sure our pages didn't clash.
Super Soaked in Songkran was my feature article. Over the course of several weeks, I designed the layout and tweaked it until everyone in the group was satisfied.
My department article focused on traditions that families could celebrate from home- in this case- the summer solstice. Listed are rescouces and books where they could persue further reading.

Part of the assignment was to integrate half page ads, which you can see one of on the last page of my dept. article.

We had seperate but similar style sheets for these as well.
For the second part of the project, we were tasked to import our print designs into an ipad friendly format with Indesigns Digital Publishing System. Below are a couple (not all) of the pages I did for this. In addition to the layout changing, we also added maps, videos, and links to embellish the readers experience and to make our articles more interactive.

You will notice the cover is different from the final- we were each tasked to put together a potential cover, while only one would make the final cut.
Lastly, we needed to make a promotional element for the magazine, to be handed out as an advertisement. We worked together to make a set of items that went together. I was responsible for this tote bag- which all the objects would be put into and handed out.

We used these icons in our branding identity, they all relate to travel and adventure!
