Liminal is a speculative newspaper that aims to create a sense of home for the modern, mobile tribe. As an iteration of my thesis, the project explores how we can use the functionality of technology within more physical, embodied interactions.
The Newspaper
HOW IT WORKS:
Users contribute media to Liminal in their exisiting phone applications. There is no extra component to download or use.
Uploading Media
Selecting Your Tribe
The Interaction
When a user then encounters a Liminal stand, the newspaper populates with the most recent media uploaded by her tribe.
WHY IT WORKS
By combining interaction with a physical object, a user's surroundings, and her closest community, and advanced digital capabilities, Liminal embraces innovation while honoring foundational human needs and desires for intimacy and physical connectivity.
TESTING
Final Design, tested April 2015 with Jillian Barkley
Successful:
- connected Jillian to her tribe in an otherwise impersonal environment
- element of happenstance contributed to her experience
- Liminal felt distinguished from existing services that connect users to their community (ex. Facebook)
Problematic:
