xyz is aproject for sustainable living in belgrade done by ruzica jovanovic, a masterstudent of architecture at the university of belgrade.
The projectpoints out the need to reinterpret the flat and to start treating it threedimensionally. the most effective way to do so is to combine the most significant element of living in a countryhouse – the garden - with the mostvaluable elements of living in a skyscraper - the view and the closeness to thecity. By exploiting the heights and not theground this project gives a reaction to the global density problems. By growingupwards more living space in the centerof the city is created.
The height ofeach of these apartments makes it possible to have an inside garden, and roomsthat hang above this garden. By stacking these apartments onto one another,high towers are created, that occupy the air space of the city and not theground space, which makes it possible to have more living spaces in the centerof the city. One of the towers is filled with cars, and the walls of theseparking towers are used for putting windmills that gather energy for the wholeblock. Another type of towers is for growing food, with rotating gardens inside, so that each plantgets enough sunlight. Every element of the xyz living is linked into a unique sustainablesystem.
By this fusionof the freedom of living in acountryside house with the advantage of living in the center of the city, thexyz project offers a new chapter in residential architecture.
