Introduction
My chosen brief was the second brief ‘Milestones’ looking at the momentous decisions that a mother and the child has to go through when having to give up her child for international adoption. This  is put  into context by investigating the mass evacuation of over 2,000 baby’s during the fall of  former city known as  Sai Gon in Vietnam the operation was called ‘ Operation Babylift’. The evacuation/adoption of over 2,000 children happened in 1975 over a week and changed the perception of international adoption and how the children where brought through the system.
After re-writing the brief the concept in this brief was to publish a series of publications to bring you through the system letting the reader emotionally growing  with the child as you hit major milestones in there lives. While in the background of this text there is a further analysis into inter-country adoption that explores the more academic side of inter-country adoption. I only published one  book with in this series the first milestone when and why the mother gives up her child to be adopted.
I started my research by broadly looking into various different types of publications related to my brief. This was to give myself a better idea of what was already published and how well they where being revived . After surveying the landscape I found that there was no real publications that where aimed at a mature audience and meant to inform and connect with the reader. So the design within the publication  was developed from the journey of a child, being adopted following the context of the story being told.  With a spilt in the academical writing and the emotional writhing to re-enforce the split between the parent and child.
I chose a series of books as they are for a wide audiences from children who went through ‘Operation Babylift’ to parents who potentially want to adopt in the near future. I wanted to allow book series to grow like a child each book a different milestone that the protagonist has to face.
Project Aims
The Primary aim of this project is to better visualise the effects of inter country adoption has on a child and the political implications.

Background
Looking at “Operation Babylift” as an example of how the implication of children being adopted and it’s effect not only the child’s life but also the country’s involved in this case America and Vietnam. This milestone of losing not only a family but also a there nationality creates difficult to answer questions in the adoptee life by creating a book that can relate to the adoptee it will help create connection with the system and other adoptee’s

Objectives
Create a book  that identify the best practice in book design and create a structure that is appropriate for the content. To show the connection between the emotional side being a birth parent, child or adoptive parents and facts of adoption.
Display the cultural issues’ that arise when adopting a child from a foreign country
Clearly the show the stage of adoption and major points in inter-country adoption.

Target Market
males and females
The children and the Volunteers of “Operation Babylift”
Adoptee’s
Aspiring adoptee’s parents
Key considerations
To create an unique and meaningful book for people involved in Operation Babylift and anyone going through inter-country adoption.
Creating a clear visual time line of adopting a child.
The text should be clear and accessible to the reader but the text should also visually explain the content.
Separation and connection to the child, birth parents and adoptive parents is a major part.

Deliverables
A design strategy document that show more detail indicating; Typography elements, Colour considerations, formatting, stock choice, Layout element and other elements that had to be considered within the design.
A prototype of the publication on a 1:1 scale with use of the stock that will be used and other elements within the book.
A rational explaining all the core elements about the design process and element’s in a general contexts.
