This project starts with an academic study about the city of London and its future projections. It lands over a major development opportunity that lies on the edge of Lea Valley, north east London, and works within an existing framework of master plans that aim to regenerate these wetlands. Meridian Water Master Plan aims to provide a robust framework for developers to generate up to 5000 new homes and 3000 new jobs. Using this framework, our team redesigned the urban structure proposed base in our own design principles and theories.

          The building complexity responds the contemporary necessity of having mixed use in the same place to consolidate strong and diverse communities with equal opportunities, no matter economic, social or ethnic circumstances of the tenants. The dwellings are designed to work with a mixed tenure model, with which homes will be sold or leased with a “tenure blind”. This means that it is not possible to distinguish between affordable and private homes from their external appearance.     

          The climatic conditions in London shape the building, giving all the sunlight priority to the dwellings, medium sunlight priority to the Hotel tower and giving comfortable indirect sunlight to the offices tower. The front façade incorporates algae technologies as a bioreactor to produce clean energy from the sun, also creating desirable interior lighting conditions.
