Benjamin Franklin January 17, 1706 - April 17, 1790
Was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and in many ways was "The First American". He earned this title for his early and indefatigable campaigning for colonial unity; as an author and spokesman in London for several colonies, then as the first USA Ambassador to France, he exemplified the emerging American nation.

In 1779 Franklin wrote a letter to a French acquaintance named André Morellet, to discuss the miracle water into wine as performed by Jesus. “We hear of the conversion of water into wine at the marriage in Cana, as of a miracle. But this conversion is, through the goodness of God, made every day before our eyes. Behold the rain which descends from heaven upon our vineyards, and which incorporates itself with the grapes to be changed into wine; a constant proof that God loves us, and loves to see us happy.”. This letter is the origin of misquote that being attributed to Benjamin Franklin; "Beer is proof that god loves us, and wants us to be happy.".

Charles Darwin February 12, 1809 - April 19, 1882
Was an English naturalist and geologist, best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. He established that all species of life have descended over time fromcommon ancestors.

In 1859 Darwin published "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection" which is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. Darwin's book introduced the scientific theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of natural selection. It presented a body of evidence that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. He chose not to include the topic in his great masterpiece except to say that "Light will be thrown on the origin of man and his history" and feature a schematic of human evolution on the book cover.
