D&AD New Blood Awards 2015: Monotype Brief

"Create a new visual language for film advertising. One that relies on and relishes words, instead of falling back on the usual photographic imagery. Take a director of your choice and use the power of type to promote a retrospective screening of their films."

Focusing on Roland Emmerich, there is an obvious common theme in his most notable films — the man is obsessed with destroying the world! My intention was that the posters for each of the three films would have one overriding concept; the type would be photographed and set in a way that visually shows that the world is ending and that time is quickly running out. I have incorporated fire, ice and magnetic force to illustrate the loss of people's livelihoods
By showing only the word "Tomorrow" in melting ice it suggests that tomorrow might never come if we do not act fast to stop global warming.
