Almost everything we use comprises of fibre, be it Natural fibre (animal or Plant) or Synthetic fibre. This course started with exploring different types of fibres and its political, economic and cultural importance.
We even experimented with some materials for example soaking it in water, glue or acetone, or applying dyes on it, weaving with it or even separating each fibre.
Here are a few explorations:
WEAVING:
Making a simple weaving loom with bamboo sticks.
Wrapping the warp thread (White cotton thread)
Size: 10 x 10 inches
Weaving the Weft ( Purple Dyed cotton thread)
Finished weave.
Time taken: 2 days
Materials used: White cotton thread (warp)
                         Dyed Purple thread (weft)
White and dyed surgical cotton (weft)
                         Green long leaf (weft)
Size: 8 x 8 inches
Time taken: 1 day
Materials used: Jute thread
                         White cotton thread
                         Dried leaves
INSTALLATION:
Using all the explorations, we had to make a final installatoins using any three materials. The installation did'nt have to mean anything in specific, it just had to show your creativity with the material.
I choose Jute and dried coconut leaves.
And started weaving them together.
After two rounds of weft, I conneted both the loose ends and made it into a cylindrical structure.
I made 9 such structures and cut them into different lenghts.
Arranging the tower like structures and inserting Fairy lights into each of the structure.
