The Perpetual Frieze is an ongoing project that began in New York in 1984 and continues as inspiration and time allow. The Frieze is a photo-collage of urban landscape and cityscape elements from neighborhoods where I have lived or spent time. Over time I have used these locations in numerous paintings and drawings and developed a point of view enabling an expansion of the visual elements from the documentary into something more subjective and fluid. I deconstruct stacks of photographs and reassemble the pieces into a different kind of image but one which still has reference to the original location. The idea of working from left to righ,t with no pre-planning, results in a flowing wave pattern in which the newly added pieces are informed by every piece that has already been placed.
