Exploring Scenography-design of performance environment

A photo book consisting of 10 pictures depicting the important scenes from the narrative pygmalion.

We fixed on our style that is contemporary, decided that modifying the play and setting it in a modern period would be a good alteration. We changed the story to make it more indianized. In our current society class is not divided in terms of speech like in Shaw’s version, it is distinguished based on societal status which usually comes with money and fame. We thus decided that a Bollywood take on the story would bring out this concept well. We created a twist in terms of visual aspects as well, where we decided to stick to a monochromatic theme. White, grey and black - these colors represent the transformation of gayatris lost identity!

In our version of the Pygmalion Professor Henry Higgins is played by an egoistic but skillful Bollywood director - Sumer Ayan Malhotra who believes he can make or break anyone’s carrier. Colonel Pickering is played by an old but well accomplished producer - Yash Pillai, Eliza is played by a regular city girl - Gayatr Daswani and an industry born chocolate boy plays Freddy Eynsford-Hill - Ayan Kapoor.

We decided that these were the only four characters we wanted and that adding more would complicate the script and make our job difficult.

SYNOPSIS
Pygalion is the story that links the Cinderella story of a transformation fro rags to riches. underneath the comedy of the photo series, questions are raised about the stifiability of social distinction and the role of a woman in a pretentious  society. Although the photo series is set in contemporary tines, Gayatri Daswani is showed as suffering fro loss of dignity and escaping fro her previos life with the help of Yash Pillais civility,Sumer Ayan Malhotra proficiency, and her own awakened self reliance. the photo series deals with the assumptions of social speriority and inferirity that underlie the class system of the Bollywood industry. Sumer Ayan Malhotra transformation of Gayatri Daswani demonstrates how poise and etiquette lifts one in the star society.
