Udgam'15 - Lecture Series Poster

Client : Entrepreneur Development Cell (EDC), IIT Guwahati
Client Profile : The Entrepreneurial Development Cell (EDC) , IIT-Guwahati is a non-profit student body which aims to spread the spirit of entrepreneurship among students, faculty, staff and youth of North-East India.
Project Release : February '14
Work Requirement : A poster was required by EDC to release the line-up of the guest speakers coming in Udgam'15 - Annual Entrepreneurship Summit of IIT, Guwahati. The impressive line-up included seven high profile names of the corporate world. It was a real challenge to accomodate all the speakers in one poster and in such a way that the poster gives equal focus to each one of them.
The poster was released on the Facebook page of EDC and printed for on-campus branding purposes.
Status : Complete
Here are the various steps describing how I was able to make this poster :-
Step 1 - The poster was to be made on A3 landscape or portrait format. I had the task to arrange the pictures of 6 speakers (later on, another speaker was added) along with the information in such a way that each gets equal focus and no speaker looks more important than the other. Apart from this, a significant upper and lower space was required to accomodate the logos of the clients and basic contact information.

Keeping all in mind, the following iterations were made:-
Step 2 - The first two iterations were rejected because they were common and also the speaker picture and information would be in a constrained and small space. The third iteration didn't have these problems. It was thus selected. Now, I needed a way to utilise the speaker space and make it look attractive.
For this, the following iterations were done:-
Step 3 - The first iteration was way too common. The idea to show pictures in circular cuts was outdated. Hence I decided to use a polygonal way and to be more precise, I chose hexagonal cuts.
Step 4 - To further modify the design, I chose to not have full fledged hexagons. Instead, I began to form irregular hexagons and pentagons to make it look more interesting and unique. Here is the iteration I came up with:-
Step 5 - The pictures of the speakers were added in the shapes. The pictures were properly aligned and fitted into the shapes. The line-up was looking very good and hence this iteration was made final.
Step 6 - All the text was added along with the logos. The final poster was ready to use and was highly appreciated by the client. It was also well received by the audience and the speakers themselves.
