Heart of the City

“Heart of the City”

This piece features the city presented as a jukebox filled with a plethora of different instruments working in harmony to electrify the environment with it’s potent energy. The West Afrikan adinkra symbols (which can be seen above the middle panel) represent a conduit for that energy. The middle adinkra symbol is called “OSRAM NE NSOROMMA” ,which can be translated to “The moon and the star”  It is the symbol of love, faithfulness, and harmony. This symbol reflects the harmony that exists in the bonding between a man and a woman. And in this case the harmony of the large range of tones these instruments produce. The left and right adinkra are symbols representing energy. They all work together to power the heart of the city represented as the expressive dancer with boombox in hand (Reminiscent of Radio Raheem)
