Questioning Beauty - Fragments

"What is beauty?"

As part of my exchange to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh I participated in the course "Semantics and Aesthetics". As a part of this, I created a series of videos exploring the meaning of beauty in relation to the natural world. These videos were an iterative process allowing me to explore the communication of my ideas as I expanded on them throughout the semester. The videos finally culminated in "Sounds" a video where I combined a number of elements to express the experience of beauty in nature.
This final, more experimental video explores the boundaries between nature and humanity. I recorded the sounds of my walk home, then interpreted that sound through ink paintings. I then combined that footage with photographs of nature infitrating man-made structures. I was curious to see what new meanings could be created when different elements are combined together.
