The Things She Sees, Ben Power’s novel adapted by Charles Boyle for the stage.
The premise of the animated background was to add another dimension for the audience. The play was based around premonitions from a teenage girl, Dizzy, in the form of sketchbook drawings - the artwork was made in a style that suggests this, giving the audience a glimpse into her sketchbook and the character's thoughts.
"The production team for The Things She Sees, including the set designer, is made up of young local people. Rather than create a painted backdrop, the locations will be created using digital images. They will represent the girl’s drawings to create the illusion that all the characters are part of her artwork." - Scarborough Evening News, Wednesday 8 June 2011.
Everything was made from photographs and illustrations; put together using Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects and performed live using MIDI triggers and Resolume Avenue. The feedback from the director as well as members of the audience was positive and was a fun project to be involved with.
Unfortunately I have had some hard-drive issues and lost the final video clips in the process - the performance was recorded and I'll have some video to show at some point.
