Museum M goes Rothko

The graphic identity for Museum M goes Rothko. A (fictional) exhibition of Mark Rothko at Museum M in Belgium. My approach was the method Rothko painted, he used an enormous amount of thin layers of paint. Colors (dis)appear or let a certain glow behind. Color becomes the subject in itself. I translated this by using a sort of layeredness through my visual language.

The blood-red color comes from Rothko's last work. A striking choice of color, as the artist had produced mainly dark and sombre paintings in the preceding period.
