We had so much fun last year designing our own Lai See pocket so we're doing it again this year.

 

It's the Year of Sheep and we don't want to show a visual of the animal since everyone does that. So we tried to think what reminds people of sheep. And this is the result - wool.

 

I enjoyed hand stitching every single one of them even though it took me many nights while watching TV. They come in different woollen material and patterns. People get to pick the one they like. We hope it makes the custom more fun and the point is, it's not about the money it's about the tradition and the people you care about.

 

Btw our plan B was to put HK$5 (standard HK$20) into a red pocket and call it "Year of the Cheap" since my husband quit his job and is now unemployed. But I don't think my Chinese parents would appreciate the joke and wouldn't approve of us being so stingy.

 

So I guess it is about the money and by the look on my nieces' faces when they got their Lai See - everyone likes a little bit of money.
