Burning Through Money

Burning Through Money (14"x17") (Prismacolors)
In Burning Through Money, the burning dollar and the cracked concrete behind, represent how easy it is for people to burn through their money. Consumerism prevails in many of us as we earn, inherit, or amass money. We find it unchallenging to live lavishly, soothing our desires to be luxurious. The concrete behind symbolizes the ruin that we can become.

This piece was created for and submitted to the 2015 Museum of Los Gatos Annual Juried High School Exhibition.

The exhibition theme:

Facing challenges is a part of life. Challenges may be physical, emotional, cultural, personal, institutional, or in the area of communications. How do you see these challenges in your everyday life, or in the world around you? Where are the barriers? What might be the bridges? The possibilities are limitless. Here are a few prompts that might be helpful to consider:

What may be a barrier that prevents movement, understanding, or connection?
What means, connections, or structures can bridge obstacles or create new pathways?
Where can bridges be found? When can bridges find you?
