Love is in the Error: Pathetic Solutions to Pathetic Problems

Love is in the Error: Pathetic Solutions to Pathetic Problems was a show by Chris von Szombathy and Drew Shaffer at the Catalog Gallery under curator Robert Squier in Vancouver, 2012. This show was also produced with the support of the DTES Small Arts Grant provided through the Vancouver Foundation.

This show of sculptural work put forth our mutual conception that our actions are both pathetic and divine; that what is gauche is more revealing than what is graceful. The work is proof that the exegesis of our existence is as ignored as it is apparent.

The main piece titled You Complete Me was also shown at Gallery Gachet and Chapel Arts.
Snake & Ladder: a Futile Game (acrylic on board, cotton)
You Complete Me (EPS, cotton, acrylic, latex, glue, gumballs)
(This piece came with 1000 gumballs that patrons could chew and then use as skin for the head when they were done. The head was was about 3.5 feet tall. It was shown at 3 galleries and was eventually extremely gross, though it smelled nice.)

Quick Fix (polymer clay, acrylic paint)
Monumental Accident (polymer clay, balsa, wire, acrylic paint)
Hope Springs Momentary (matchstick, lightbulb, wire, wood)
Faux Filling (wool, polymer clay, acrylic paint)

Gertrude's New Look (polymer clay, card, enamel and acrylic)
Bad Start (polymer clay, acrylic paint, medium, ceramic, eggshell)
You Got My Point (polymer clay, wood, wire, acrylic paint)
