«KOTE» is an independent magazine that discusses matters regarding our physical surroundings. The magazine is initiated and run by students and recent graduates within the fields of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

 

The topic of issue no. 5 is "form and effect". It explore how we perceive our environment and how it affects us in everyday life.

 

We were asked to illustrate the cover and an article inside the magazine called ”Walkability”. 

 

For the illustration on the cover we wanted to play with simple surfaces and angles to create an illusion of a room. We aim to challenge the reader to reflect on whether it feels like a good room, a negative space or nothing at all. We wanted the reader to interpret the room through the boy and the girl’s eyes and question what they feel and see in the environment they are placed in.

 

The article ”Walkability” reflects on how the environment influences us to behave in a certain way and how we use our surroundings to make the choices we do. To illustrate this article we created two collages blending human bodies and images of physical places. We did so to symbolize how humans are shaped by the places we surround us with and how we choose one place above one other because the place touch us in a way.
