Degree Show & Festival of Creative Industries 2015

Brief

Design the logo for the first Degree Show & Festival of Creative Industries (2015) for Edinburgh Napier University. The logo should clearly demonstrate the combination of events for the first time.

Winning Concept

The pencil represents the beginning of every great design process. It’s the foundation for gaining the skills required to graduate from a design course at Edinburgh Napier. As such it is a fitting representation of the work that will be displayed at the Degree Show and the educational content during the Festival of Creavtive Industries. The ampersand was chosen as the main element of the marque to emphasise the combination of both events for the first time.

It can be used on its own (see below) to create the most impact or with the full name (see above) as a dynamic marque for website banners, business cards etc. The ampersand could also be made into an animation for the web if appropriate. The pencil can also be used within the environmental graphics as a direction tool (see below), further adding to the versatility of the brand. The brand typeface is Futura Std. It was chosen for its geometrical properties, which convey a degree of technicality. This hints at Napier’s difference to the Art College. The colour red was chosen to be harmonious with the Napier pallete.
