Harbour is a magazine I created for the Canadian sailor. It presents a different aesthetic than most sailing magazines on the market, bringing a fresh face to shelves around the country.
The first article is typographic, and tells the story of a woman who grew up sailing the brigs every summer. She writes about how this taught her more than just the ropes, and the effect it has had on her life.
The second article in this magazine is an illustrated guide to the different kinds of sailboats and their histories. I did the illustrations digitally, trying to keep them as accurate as possible while showing the beginner sailor the sail plans and rigging in a simple way.
The third and final article in this magazine is a feature on the Volvo Open Ocean Race 2014-2015. It shows the amazing photography the Volvo Race team photographers post every day, and tells the story of the progress during the first leg of the race, as well as the difficulties and dangers of sailing the open ocean. The design reflects the high speed and excitement of this race.
I also created an iPad version of this magazine to allow users to have access to it on different platforms, as they are becoming more and more prevalent in today's society. The printed design now becomes an interactive experience, with buttons and slideshows and other added elements.
The social media links for the Volve Open Ocean Race were included at the bottom of this article to allow the user to connect with the teams as the race continues, and to keep updated with further legs of the race.
