Harry Truman - Franklin D. Roosevelt Lid Card

Times of war require leaders to make difficult choices. World War II was the greatest conflict the world has ever known and it became the defining issue of two American presidencies. Although the United States tried to maintain a strict policy of neutrality, President Franklin Roosevelt did what he could to aid the Allied forces in Europe. It was only a matter of time before the war was brought to our doorstep in the form of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, forcing Roosevelt to make the decision to send American troops into battle.

Following Roosevelt’s death, Truman took up the presidency and the responsibility of ending the war. Confronted by relentless Japanese aggression, Truman had to make a similarly difficult decision: using atomic bombs against Japan. Although both presidents were forced into extreme situations by the realities of war, Roosevelt and Truman accepted their responsibilities and did what was necessary for the people of the United States.
