Self / Nature is an interactive artwork presented as a critique of our contemporary relationship to nature. The installation allows participants to experience audio visual feedback reflective of their self image as a slowly growing organic plant/grass. The experience is meant to be very sensorial, elevating and quasi-spiritual. The objective is to promote thinking about one’s relationship to the future of the ecosystem, and to consider that the time we spend engaged with digital platforms and modern environments should be balanced with time to reflect on our existence between natural and digital environments. The installation was first presented at the VAV Gallery (Montreal), as part of the Art + Other organisms exhibition (2014). A collaborative work by Serge Maheu, Milo Reinhardt, Mathieu Riendeau and Philip Figiel.
