Kim Liên High School 40th Year Anniversary

It was an important occasion when Kim Liên High School celebrated their 40th year anniversary on November 15th, 2014. As a former student, I was the one who's responsible for creating a logo for this special event.
The traditional symbol is a Golden Lotus, which is the meaning of the school's name in Vietnamese

I want to use a simple shape to represent the Lotus, which is the school's symbol; with the number 40 at the center. My first attempt was a hexagon
Not seeing the lotus clearly out of the shape, i sketched some others figures.
Overall, i simplified the shape of a lotus and put the number 40 as well as the school name at the center with he main tone of white - golden yellow. From inside-out, there're 40 veins represent 40 years of developing and contributing. The 40th vein is the biggest, meaning that this 40th year is the brightess, the most memorable so far. Outside the main shape, the veins continue to grow as the wish for many years to come, this school will continue to aquire more and more achivements in its educational career.
Because of a vision issue, I must remove the outer veins. This is the final figure which is chosen by the Principle.
