The project is a collaboration between the musicians, including poet Curtis Lyle, a professor at Washington University, and Josh Weinstein, who is starting a new label of vinyl imprints. Consultation produced a shared admiration of the cover art of 1960's jazz albums — graphically spare and abstract. I approached the challenge by brainstorming with brushed ink drawings emblematic of the improvisational quality of the music, focusing on rings as sound waves, in threes, to illustrate the trio.
