Penguin Books Motion Poster: Animal Farm

THE PROBLEM
This university project asked me to to create a 15-45 second motion poster to advertise a digital re-release of a classic book, focusing on both reminding someone who had read the book before how great it was and making them want to re-buy it in a digital format, and on encouraging new readers to try it.
THE SOLUTION
Inspired by Russian Constructivist collages and the work of Terry Gilliam I created a poster which expresses the drama of the story through music ('The Saint War', a 1941 Soviet song) and strong, geometric images. I also reflected the book's satiric nature through amusing imagery such as Stalin morphing into a moustachioed pig and a homage to the famous Alexander Rodchenko poster which inspired the artwork for Franz Ferdinand's self titled album. The Cyrillic text reads 'four legs good' and 'two legs bad', a famous quote from the book, and occasionally flickers into English for one frame in order to give the viewer a subconscious understanding, which reflects the themes of propaganda and manipulation in the book.
