Круговое депо построено в середине XIX века придворным архитектором Николая I Константином Тоном. Это было одно из первых капитальных строений Российской железной дороги. По типовому проекту было построено 9 круговых депо. До сегодняшнего дня из них сохранилось только 3 — остальные строения либо полуразрушены, либо разрушены совсем. Московское круговое депо строилось по несколько отличному от типичного проекту: из-за низкой местности Константин Тон принял решение не строить в комплексе с депо мастерские, а перенести их в другое место, зато рядом с депо была построена водонапорная башня. Такой комплекс делает депо уникальным историко-культурным объектом. С этого здания начинается история железной дороги в Москве.

Сейчас здание сильно перестроено, купол снесен, арочные окна заложены и прорублены заново, появился дополнительный этаж. В здании депо располагаются магазины, а вокруг нелегальные рынки.

В проекте предусматривается восстановление всего утраченного декора здания, арочных окон, а так же купола. В куполе будет устроен дополнительный ряд окон для освещения внутреннего двор депо.
The project provides for the recovery of all lost decoration of the building, arched windows, as well as the dome. In the dome will be arranged a number of additional windows for illumination of internal yard of the depot.
В проекте предусматривается восстановление всего утраченного декора здания, арочных окон, а так же купола. В куполе будет устроен дополнительный ряд окон для освещения внутреннего двор депо.

Часть перекрытий 2го этажа предполагается убрать в 2х местах, и в освободившееся место загнать исторические вагоны или паровозы. Эти экспонаты можно будет рассматривать не только с низу, но и сверху, с уровня 2 этажа.

Таков, в общих чертах был мой дипломный проект. Но сейчас, к несчастью, комплекс зданий Кругового депо снова находится в опасности. Ранее здание депо принадлежало частному лицу. В настоящий момент оно официально перешло в собственность ОАО "РЖД". Арендаторы предупреждены о необходимости очистить занимаемые ими помещения до 1 октября 2011 года в связи со сносом, для которого, нет законных оснований, так как здание является ново выявленным памятником архитектуры. И ни о какой реконструкции речи уже не идет.
