Common Lawn Mowers and Tractor Problems

A lawn mowing tractor is one of the most frequently used pieces of machinery in the house.  Many issues are associated with a lawn mower; it can start spewing smoke or drive in shifts or jerks. Depending on the extent of the problem, a person can simply fix it himself or he will have to call an oil and gas repair service company.
Like most oil driven vehicles, a lawn mower needs regular maintenance to work well. If it is neglected and its problems left to exacerbate, it will have to be repaired extensively or replaced.
Take a look at some of the common problems related to an oil-driven grass tractor.

1)       Produces Smoke: A lot of home owners believe that if their lawn tractor starts spewing acrid smoke, it needs to be replaced. However, the cause can be very simple. More likely your lawn tractor has a blocked air filter that is making the engine pull oil past the piston rings and create an acrid cloud. The solution is simple; just unblock or replace your air filter and take a look at your pistons. It should work correctly again, but if it still makes black smoke, call your oil and gas repair service company.

2)      Unable to Start: A tractor can refuse to start due to various reasons. It can have a faulty spark plug, starter or carburetor that is not allowing the engine to start. You can check these by using an ohm-meter to check the starter and a plug tester to check the spark plug. If either of them is not working, you have a choice to replace them. Check the carburetor to see if it is clogged with the residue of old oil fuel. Drain the fuel from the bowl and clean the carburetor to solve the issue.

3)      Out of Oil: Check to make sure there is sufficient oil in the oil tan. A rough ride can mean shortage of fuel on which the lawn tractor works. If you are driving your lawn tractor and it runs out of oil, this can damage the engine extensively. There are some newer models, that have automatic switches that can shut the engine off when the oil depletes, but if you are using an older modern, this mistake can cost you a new engine. A new engine can cost you hundreds of dollars but can get you many years of service.

4)      Old Age: Some lawn mowers can work for 5-7 years although newer models can run for around twenty years. If your tractor keeps breaking down or starts in fits and jerks, it might be time for you to get a newer one.  Your oil and gas repair service company will recommend a new tractor if your cost of repairs exceeds 50%
