Wayfinding System
University of Coimbra
A way finding system designed to achieve a better communication between the Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra and its users, be it teachers or students, but specially newcomers and visitors, relies on the simplification of recognizable elements alongside a easily understandable and minimalist way of conveying a proper usage of the requested interface.
This is an interface that should easily answer a few questions to those who may find the physical embodiment of this Department a little bit, if not a lot, messy and confusing. Those include the proper locations of rooms and services as well as where should one be able to find a specific teacher or entity inside the building.
Creating a wayfinding system for this specific type of building includes taking into account aspects such as nomenclature and spacial disposition of elements, as well as the differences those have among them. Blocks vary in shape, setting and axis of flow.
Developed for 1280x1024 screens, the created grid resulted in a 40x32 32px square grid.

The functioning APP
The app includes four different types of search, those being a search by room,
service and teacher, as well as free navigation search.
A tile-based system allows users to navigate through the building knowing what recognizable landmarks one should go through to reach their destination.
Checking a specific page will present information regarding the searched term as well as a pathfinding snippet highlighting the route from the starting point to the destination.
Free search provides a double view system for users to gain a better knowledge of the building's displacement while branching from the start specific areas those might be interested on.
