Algonquin Park Redesign

Algonquin, the first provincial park in Ontario, protects a variety of natural, cultural, and recreational features and values. As one of the largest provincial parks, Algonquin is diverse and offers something for nearly everyone. However, Algonquin’s current identity and branding do not reflect all the park has to offer, therefore I have designed a modern, conceptual, fluid identity that will speak to the parks target audience and encourage higher visitation. The following are a collection of visual and graphic materials and style guide that would follow the redesigned Algonquin brand standards.

The main Algonquin Park logo has been designed to encompass all the park has to offer. This logo conveys the meaning of Algonquin Park with just one symbol, an acorn. The logo combines the letter “A” for Algonquin and an acorn, which represents various aspects of nature within the park (seed, tree, environment, food source, ext.). The logo uses soft/round edges to provide a humanistic/less “corporate” feel and although it is intricate in meaning, the logo uses simple forms to convey its message. The symbol within the “A” shape and colour will change depending on the group, showing that each group serves different functions, but works together as a whole. The Algonquin sub groups are environment, represented by a brown pine tree, recreation, represented by an orange fire pit, wildlife, represented by a blue loon and heritage represented by a yellow arrow. As well, a organic pattern which resembles a topographical map, water ripples and tree rings will be used in combination with the logo to achieve a fluid identity.
