The brief was to create a series of book covers for three classic children's books namely The Wind in the Willows, Peter Pan and the Secret Garden. The aim was to make the book covers form a collection and to unite the books with a running theme and a similar palate of colours used throughout.

 

As each book has the theme of a journey and discovery i used a series of maps depicting for each book the individual journey and milestones or significant places within the books shown on the maps.

I tried to keep the maps as simple as possible keeping to a limited palate of colours so that they would appeal to older children and their parents. The front and back covers work as whole. I also designed a key to each map that is to be attached to the inside flap of each book and then torn out and used as a book marker by the reader.
